WATER-SOLUBLE COORDINATION CAGES

The evolution of coordination driven self-assembly merged as a powerful method to develop diverse 2D and 3D architectures. The water-soluble coordination cages formed by the coordination-driven self-assembly offers high degree of predictability on geometry due to the organization of metal-ions and organic ligands. A well defined  hydrophobic confined inner nano-cavity works as a safe container for guest molecules for sensing, catalysis, and drug delivery. Designing of a molecular barrel structure with two large open windows may facilitate the encapsulation of hydrophobic molecules in the aqueous medium as “molecular ship-in-a-bottle” system.
